Fixi's verdict: Fixable

Works well on slightly soft photos. AI can't recover detail that was never captured.

The problem

Camera shake or a missed focus spreads each detail across nearby pixels, so the photo looks soft. AI upscalers have learned what sharp edges usually look like and redraw them. That works well when the shapes are still visible, and badly when they aren’t.

What AI can't fix here

  • Very small or heavily blurred photos. AI guesses the missing detail, and faces may change.
  • Text that can't be read in the original, such as a number plate.
  • Photos you need as evidence. A sharpened photo is no longer the original.

Questions

Is there a completely free way to fix a blurry photo?

Yes. Upscayl's desktop app is free and open source, needs no account, and runs on your own computer.

Why doesn't Upscayl work on my laptop?

Upscayl needs a Vulkan-compatible graphics card. Many built-in (integrated) graphics chips don't work, though it's worth trying.

Try "launch a SaaS", "competitors", "content" or "blurry photo".
